About Codeshed: who makes it and how it stays free
Codeshed is a free tool for making QR codes and barcodes in your browser. It is built by Third Coffee Studio Ltd, a small independent company registered in England and Wales, company number 17517422.
It exists because making a QR code had become oddly difficult. Search for a generator and much of what you find puts the basics behind a paywall, so colours or a vector download cost money, or asks you to create an account before it will show you anything. Some quietly turn your web address into a redirect through their own servers without saying so, and people find out after the print run, when a free trial ends and the code on five thousand leaflets stops working.
The Codeshed website does none of that. The codes it makes are static, which means your data is encoded in the pattern itself and nothing routes through us. Scanning one does not reach our servers, so there is nothing to renew and nothing to break. The codes are also generated on your own device, so the web address, Wi-Fi password or contact details you type never leave your browser. We do not see them.
You get QR codes and barcodes, colours, a centre logo, a choice of error-correction level, and PNG, SVG and PDF downloads. No account, no sign-up, no watermark. It works offline once the page has loaded.
The website is paid for by advertising. That keeps it free for the person who needs one code on a Tuesday afternoon, which is most people. Our sister site Tantoo, at tantoo.app, does the same job for everyday measurements and conversions.
